What is Papercut?

PaperCut is a simple, low cost software application that lets you take control and manage your printing, copier and multi-function device (MFD) use. Its features eliminate waste, encourage responsible behavior and make users and departments accountable for their usage. PaperCut includes embedded software that runs on your copier/MFD to enable tracking, control and secure print release directly from the device’s panel. PaperCut’s produts are currently in use in over 50,000 organizations worldwide. From its first release over ten years ago, PaperCut has always been designed specifically for the education environment.

PaperCut allows us to track, estimate, and report on printer and MFD usage across the district. The Technology Center works with the Business Department to stay on target with the budget allocated for printer and copier usage. It also assists us by increasing the functionality of MFDs, raising awareness about the financial and ecological costs of printing, and reducing printer/MFD waste.  Put simply, costs have been associated with district printers and MFDs, and everyone has been given balances. PaperCut calculates and deducts your usage automatically.

PaperCut allows us to offer:

  • Anywhere Printing and print release - Allows you to print from your device and pick up the print from any MFD.
  • Google Cloud Print - Allows personal, non-Windows, and mobile devices to print to Anywhere Printing.
  • Prepaid cards - Deposit additional credits into your account for special projects.
  • Network account integration - Use your network account or a NFC-enabled ID badge to log on to any MFD, instead of using 4-digit PINs.

What do the printers cost?

The rates have been calculated using the market price of the toner/ink appropriate for each model of printer and paper. Be aware that some printers cost drastically more credits than the new Sharp MFDs. To get the most value for your credits, be aware of how much the printers you use cost! A complete list of printer costs can be found in the PaperCut web portal where you view your balance.
