The Primary South Singers is a before-school choir for 1st or 2nd grade students. The experience is designed to supplement the general music class by offering a more in-depth choral experience in the comfort of a shared camaraderie.
At first glance, observers can easily see students refining musical skills through music reading, vocal technique, artistry, and simple choreography. And yet, looking through a wider camera lens, we see the elementary choir as ideal project-based learning. While learning important artistic skills, students are simultaneously learning core skills needed for any post-secondary college and career success. The New Tech Network student learning outcomes of agency, collaboration, written communication and oral communication are intricate threads weaved into the Primary South Singers experience.
Our art is shared through a variety of performances throughout the school year. Past performances include the sharing of holiday music at Mt. Healthy Christian Village, McKelvey Baptist church, the Springfield Township Winterfest, and the William Howard Taft museum.
We have also enjoyed performances at the Winton Woods City Schools Fine Arts Fair, the Night of Freedom at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, the pre-show for the Springfield Township Playhouse in the Park series, and the Black History Celebration at Winton Woods Primary North.
The group is directed by Ms. Shere Davidson, a veteran educator of 20+ years. Besides being an educator, Ms. Davidson has enjoyed a successful career as a performer with various local groups as well as a chorister and soloist with the Cincinnati Opera.
The group meets weekly on Tuesday mornings before school and participation is open to all 1st and 2nd graders at Winton Woods Primary South.
