Technology

All classroom teachers have computers running Windows XP. Each teacher has access to the following: the Internet, an online catalog for Beechwoods library, Accelerated Reader, email, Microsoft Office and the ability to view their computers screens on their classroom TV's. Teachers also have access to a digital camera. Students use software to reinforce what is being taught in the classrom.

The Primary Computer Labs consist of 25 Compaq computers, a Windows XP server, and an EIKI projector for presentations.  All grade levels use the lab weekly.  Classes spend 45 minutes a week in the library and computer lab.  Additional time is available for special class projects.  Teachers and the Media Assistant actively work with the students during lab time.  The lab is also used for teacher training.  It has access to the Internet, Mircosoft Office, Accelerated Reader Programs in addition to several software programs.

Computer Lab Objective

  • Instruct students on the proper use of the computer.
  • Introduce objectives through the use of computers.
  • Support classroom curriculum
  • Use interactive software to increase studen'ts computer skills.

Computer Lab Expectations

  • RESPECT the person giving instructions
  • RESPECT those around you by not talking during instructions.
  • RESPONSIBLE for your workstation.  Do Not go anywhere on the computer unless directed by the Teacher of Media staff.
  • HERE TO LEARN, therefore students will do nothing to keep the teacher's from teaching or anyone, themselves, for learning.
  • CONSEQUENCES of MISUSE:  A letter will will be sent to the Principal, Parents, Homeroom Teacher, Technology Center, and a copy will be kept in the students file.  In addition, students will lose the computer privileges,for a period of time, which could affect their grades

Computer Projects by Grade Level

  • Kindergarten Learn to Keyboard, Math & Grammer Skills, and Introduction to the Internet.
  • Grade 1 - Learn to Keyboard, Math & Grammar Skills, Introduction to the Internet and Accelerated Reading Quizzes.
  • Grade 2 - Learn to Keyboard, Math & Grammar Skills,Internet Research,Accelerated Reading Quizzes, and Create Timelines.
