Library

by Doug Bertram last modified Tuesday, July 31

With the enthusiatic support of the entire Winton Woods Primary community, our school libraries are becoming the educational and emotional heart of the school. The library is a friendly welcoming place which is accessible to students and staff. Students have access to a collection of over 6000 books, and magazines, references books. Computer catalog, and on-line encyclopedias are offered through InfOhio (Information Network for Ohio Schools) link service.

Primary students visit the library weekly with their class for a story, silent reading or a special research lesson.  Students are introduced to a wide variety of literature, folktales, picture books, poetry, nonficton, and biographies.  They are encouraged to return individually during the week.  Our hope is that students will increase their reading and comprehensions skills as they become enthusiastic about "Accelerated Reader" computerized program in our school.  "Acclerated Reader" encourages children to read books, earn point by taking a computerized quiz and win STAR READER incentives.

Library Objectives

  • Instruct students on the proper use of the library.
  • Instruct students to be Respectful and Responsible with library books.
  • Introduce learning objectives through the use of books.
  • Support classroom curriculum.
  • Instruct students how to use the library, the Dewy Decimal System and identify the differnt forms of literature... (Fiction, Non-Fictions, Biography, Autobiography.)
  • Consequences for lost/damaged library books will cause the student to lose library priveleges until the book is paid for or returned.  Students will also lose the privilage of being involved in STAR Reader activities and possibly school special events/parties.
  • Thank you for helping your child be responsible by returning their library books each week, on their designated Library day.
