CONTESTS-ENTER TO WIN
A bulletin board has been posted outside the WWHS library to keep students abreast of contests that they are eligible to enter. Links and details of current contests will be posted on this page as well, however, students should still check the board as some details cannot be posted on this website. Mrs. Sisk is also maintaining a contest binder in the library with detailed information on each contest.
Right to Win- Citi 2008 scholarship contest
More than $35,000.00 in scholarships are awarded in this contest in which students must write an essay.
Requirements for eilgibility ar as follows:

Currently enrolled in grades 11-12 for the 2007/2008 school year

Must have the permission of parent or legal guardian to enter

Write an essay in English, of approximately 500 words but not more than 750 words on the following topic: "Tell us about a situation in which you had to use financial management to achieve a significant goal. What skills did you learn from that experience that you could use in the future?"

A sponsoring teacher's name must be included with each entry.

Essay must be the sole work of the entrant

Essays must be postmarked by April 18, 2008 and received by April 25, 2008
Scholarship prizes will be awarded as follows:
- Two grand prize winners will each receive a $15,000.00 scholarship check for college tuition
- Five second-prize winners will each receive a $1,500.00 scholarship check for college tuition
- Ten third-prize winners will each receive a $200.00 scholarship check for decorationg a college dorm and/or college supplies

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2008
These awards offer early recognition of creative teenagers and scholarship opoortunities for graduating high school seniors. The Awards program is national in scope and administered by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a nonporoft organization whose mission is to provide guidance and support for the next generation of artists and writers, in partnership with 77 regional affiliate organizations.
Requirements for eligibility are as follows:
- Currently enrolled in grades 7-12 for the 2007/2008 school year
- Attend a public, private, parochial, or home-school
- Reside in the U.S. U.S. territories, or U.S. sponsored schools abroad or Canada
- Have begun their own creative journey and want to grow as creative individuals
- Want to make connections to their peers and creavtive organizations
- Want to develop mastery and explore more opportunities to showcase their work and belive there is no limit to whre their creativity can take them
Students submit entries to a network of Regional Affiliate programs sponsored by the Alliance. Works are accepted in the following categories:
- Visual Arts: Art Portfolio, Animation, Ceramics & Glass, Computer Art, Design, Digital Imagery, Drawing, Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Photography Portfolio, Printmaking, Sculpture, Video & Film
- Writing: Dramatic Script, General Writing Portfolio, Humor, Journalism, Nonfiction Portfolio, Novel, Personal Essay/Memoir, Poetry, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Short Story, Short Short Story

ESSAY CONTESTS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ON ANN RAND'S BOOKS
ANTHEM CONTEST
Requirements for eligibility:
- Open worldwide to students in grades 9 and 10
- Correctly completed cover sheet (See contest board or contest website for details)
- Essay length between 600 and 1,200 words in length, typewritten and double-spaced
- One entry per student
- Postmark essay by March 20, 2008
- Essay must be the sole work of the entrant
Cash prizes will be awarded as follows:
- First Prize: $2000.00
- 5 Second Prizes: $500.00
- 10 Third Prizes: $200.00
- 45 Finalist Prizes: $50.00
- 175 Semifinalist Prizes: $30.00

- Postmark entry by April 25, 2008
- Essay must be the sole work of the entrant

- 45 Finalist: $100.00

TAKE BACK THE NIGHT DESIGN CONTEST
The Take Back the Night Committee invites all aread high school students submit entries in their t-shirt logo contest. The t-shirts will worn by participants in the annual Take Back the Night march and candlelight vigil, which helps to bring community awareness of the serious problem of sexual assault against women and children.
Entry requirements:
- Design should be multicultural
- Depicts both women and children
- May include some symbolism of the night
- Student's name
- School Name
- Instructor
Entries must be received by March 17, 2008. Winners will be notified by April 11, 2008.
Prizes: T-shirt and suprise prize. Display of winning artwork during the event
