STUDENTS ADVANCE TO FINALS IN SPELLEBRITY VIDEO CONTEST

After thousands of votes were counted, Nico Prentosito and Nathan Washam were among the five finalists in the Spellebrity Video Contest and will be traveling to Washington, D.C. in May for the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee. The contest—sponsored by Kindle and Scripps—asked students to produce a video that spelled out ways to kindle a love of reading. It was launched in March as part of National Reading Month.

ARTISTS REACHING CLASSROOMS PROGRAM RECEIVES COMMUNITY SPIRIT AWARD

The Artists Reaching Classrooms Program through the Taft Museum has provided multiple learning experiences and opportunities for Winton Woods High School students since its partnership with the school district began back in the 1990s. Lisa Morrisette, manager of school and docent programs for the Taft Museum, was presented with the district’s April Community Spirit award for the opportunities that the Artists Reaching Classrooms program has brought to Winton Woods High School.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL COMMENDED BY OHIO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Nelson Homan, assistant principal at Winton Woods Elementary School, received commendations from the Ohio Department of Education for his role as the school’s coordinator during the administration of the 2016 National Assessment of Educational Progress. “I join the board of education in applauding Mr. Homan for a job well done,” said Superintendent Anthony G. Smith.

SUPERINTENDENT PRESENTS END-OF-YEAR STATE OF THE SCHOOLS ADDRESS

Anthony G. Smith, superintendent of Winton Woods City Schools, will hold his one-hour State of the Schools address on Wednesday, May 4, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Winton Woods High School media center. Smith will review the 2015-2016 school year and discuss upcoming initiatives for 2016-2017. Parents, community members, staff and business leaders are invited to attend. Winton Woods High School is located at 1231 W. Kemper Rd. in Forest Park.
