SMITH DELIVERS WINTON WOODS' LATEST STATE OF THE SCHOOLS ADDRESS

Winton Woods Superintendent Anthony G. Smith started his May State of the Schools address on May 4 telling those attending, “This is a meeting about truth.” It was also about sharing his goals to improve the district’s report card ratings, continue to increase enrollment and ACT scores, and expand the New Tech Network throughout the district in the next two years.

STUDENTS BECOME "MEN OF PROMISE"

A day at the Men of Promise Conference on April 28 left the students who attended from Winton Woods Project Success, High School and Middle School “empowered and positively motivated to achieve their goals,” said Brenda Hodges-David, alternative school principal. The conference was part of Dream Builder University and was held at Prasco Laboratories in Mason.

STUDENTS ADVANCE TO FINALS IN SPELLEBRITY VIDEO CONTEST

After thousands of votes were counted, Nico Prentosito and Nathan Washam were among the five finalists in the Spellebrity Video Contest and will be traveling to Washington, D.C. in May for the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee. The contest—sponsored by Kindle and Scripps—asked students to produce a video that spelled out ways to kindle a love of reading. It was launched in March as part of National Reading Month.

ARTISTS REACHING CLASSROOMS PROGRAM RECEIVES COMMUNITY SPIRIT AWARD

The Artists Reaching Classrooms Program through the Taft Museum has provided multiple learning experiences and opportunities for Winton Woods High School students since its partnership with the school district began back in the 1990s. Lisa Morrisette, manager of school and docent programs for the Taft Museum, was presented with the district’s April Community Spirit award for the opportunities that the Artists Reaching Classrooms program has brought to Winton Woods High School.
