Winton Woods High School News:

• The annual Warrior Card “Blitz Day” will be held on Saturday, August 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Sponsored by the Winton Woods High School Athletic Boosters, our student athletes will be canvassing school district neighborhoods and selling the card for $10.00 each.  The card can be used at numerous businesses throughout the Cincinnati area and using the card just a few times more than pays for itself through the discounts available.  This is the single biggest fundraiser that the Athletic Boosters sponsor during the school year, and your purchase and support will go a long way in making “Blitz Day” a success.  When a Warrior student/athlete knocks on your door, please be generous in your support of Winton Woods High School athletics!

• For the fourth year in a row, the Winton Woods Athletic Boosters are offering parents, family and friends the opportunity to place a special message to Warrior student athletes in the Class of 2008 in this school year’s athletic programs.  These ads are offered to Class of 2008 seniors only.  The cost for a 2” x 3.5” business card sized ad is only $10.00, and you have up to 8 lines with 40 spaces maximum per line to write your message.  You may purchase more than one ad if you like, although each ad will require a separate order form.  (The order form is included in this issue of the Principal’s Newsletter.)  Checks should be made payable to Winton Woods Athletic Boosters. All forms and payments must be received by Friday, August 17th to ensure inclusion in the fall sports program.  Order forms and payments may be dropped off at the high school athletic building or mailed to: Mr. Herb Woeste, Athletic Director, Winton Woods High School, 1231 West Kemper Road, Cincinnati, OH 45240.  All proceeds benefit the Winton Woods High School athletic program.

• It is school district policy that all school fees must be current and paid in full with all forms completed and turned in prior to participation in any extra-curricular activity.  This includes sports at Winton Woods High School.  The participation fee of $60.00 and all forms (OHSAA/Physical Participation Card, Athlete Information Form which includes: Athletic Rules and Code of Conduct, Acknowledgement of Warning by Parents and Athlete, Insurance/Waiver of Insurance, Acknowledgement of Training Rules, and Winton Woods City School District Emergency Authorization Card) must be received by the Athletic Director before a student athlete is permitted to participate in his or her sporting activity.  Please talk to the student athlete’s head coach or call Herb Woeste, Athletic Director at 619-2422 should you have any questions.

• The Fort Ancient Valley Conference has held the line on ticket prices for football and volleyball games for the 2007-2008 school year.  Ticket prices remain the same as they were last year:
Varsity Football – Adults: $6.00, Students (Pre-Sale): $3.00 – All tickets bought  at the gate will be $6.00 for anyone five years and up.
JV and Frosh Football – Adults: $4.00, Students: $3.00
Varsity and JV Volleyball – Adults: $6.00, Students: $3.00
Please be advised that ticket prices for the Winton Woods vs. St. Xavier football  game at Nippert Stadium on August 25th are $10.00 if bought through the high  school prior to game day.  Tickets purchased at Nippert Stadium gates on game  day will be $13.00.

• The Hall of Fame Class of 2007 will be inducted into the Winton Woods Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, August 31st.  The newest members are: Rob Campbell (Forest Park HS, 1982), Debbie Dunn-Blakeley (Forest Park HS, 1988), Holly Hanna (Greenhills HS, 1983), Brian Gibson (Greenhills HS, 1976), Glenn Gibson (Coach, Forest Park HS and Winton Woods HS), and Robert Hite II (Winton Woods HS, 2002).

Created in 2002, the purpose of the Hall of Fame is to honor and recognize the tradition of athletic excellence that has existed at Greenhills, Forest Park and Winton Woods high schools.  Induction ceremonies will take place during halftime of the Winton Woods vs. Roger Bacon football game on August 31st.

• The Winton Woods Varsity football Warriors get their 2007 season off to a rousing start on Saturday, August 25th when they face the St. Xavier Bombers at UC’s Nippert Stadium.  Kick-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and is only the second time that the two schools have met on the gridiron, with St. X defeating Winton Woods in the opening round of the 1998 state playoffs, 35-14.  This is the fifth straight year the Warriors have been chosen to participate in this prestigious event, and we need the support of all Warrior parents, students and fans as the program continues to show that it deserves to be considered amongst the city’s elite.

Tickets are available now and can be purchased at the athletic office for $10.00 each.  A portion of the pre-game ticket proceeds will be rebated back to Winton Woods High School, so please purchase your tickets ahead of time through the high school.  Tickets purchased at the gate on game day will be $13.00 each with no rebate back to Winton Woods.

The Warriors have shown themselves more than up to the task in their previous four appearances in the Crosstown Showdown.  The past two years the Warriors have gotten their playoff seasons off in spectacular fashion with blowouts of Wilmington and Western Hills.  In 2004 Winton Woods lost a heartbreaker to Princeton in the final moments and in 2003 gave defending (and soon to be repeating) state champion Elder all they could handle well into the fourth quarter.  Get your tickets now so you don’t miss the excitement!!
