Quote of the week:

Live each day not as though it is your last, but as though it is the last day of the lives of the people you meet.

Winton Woods High School News:

• Justin Hisle, concertmaster of the Winton Woods High School Orchestra, has been accepted as a violinist for the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO). The CSYO is an auditioned group of the most elite instrumentalists in the Greater Cincinnati area from grades 9-12.

Hisle is a junior at Winton Woods High School and is a product of the Winton Woods City School's Orchestra Program. He has been studying privately for two years and has recently begun studying with CSO violinist James Braid. “Justin has recently increased his practicing to a regiment of four to five hours daily and is displaying fine leadership skills,” said Winton Woods Orchestra Director Jonathan Welch. Hisle plans to major in violin performance and wishes to become a professional violinist.

The CSYO is made up of students from over 30 high schools in southwestern Ohio, southeastern Indiana, and northern Kentucky and is under the direction of CSO Assistant Conductor Eric Dudley. The CSYO is dedicated to the cultivation of talent and provides outstanding young instrumentalists the opportunity to perform repertoire not normally available through their school music programs.

• Congratulations to freshmen orchestra members Malcolm Thompson and Patrick Kelly for auditioning for and being accepted to the Blue Ash Youth Symphony Orchestra. This orchestra is made up of advanced orchestra students from around the Greater Cincinnati area. Thompson, a violin player, and Kelly, a viola player, study privately with Kathy Rodriguez from Winton Woods Elementary School.

Winton Woods Middle School News:

• Things are off to a good start at Winton Woods Middle School. Our positive behavior system is working well. Last Friday’s Warrior Buck winner won a free ticket to the Warriors game against Roger Bacon. Go Warriors! We are surviving the heat, and the students look wonderful in their uniforms.

Winton Woods Intermediate School News:

• Thank you all for your patience at the start of this school year.  Band, orchestra, and choir are all off to a great start.  Students who have signed up for these programs should attend those classes.  Please communicate with the Ms. Ashbrook, band director, or Mr. Welch, orchestra director, if you have questions about participation.  Our other enrichment programs will begin later next week.  Students who are currently enrolled in our music programs should focus on their music as we start the year.  As time progresses, we can discuss interests outside of the music program.

• Mrs. Eversman’s art classes are working on sending postcards to our soldiers in support of Operation Letter Storm.  The students have demonstrated exceptional creativity in their final products.

• The Gifted and Talented Education program serves students at Winton Woods Intermediate School who are cognitively gifted.  These students rank in the top five percent and have qualified by meeting the criteria for selection. GTE students will be receive 50-60 minutes of instruction daily with Mrs. Joyce Frericks.  Students enrolled in Gifted and Talented Art (GTA) will receive instruction during enrichment/intervention with Mrs. Beth Pearson.

• We would like to thank everyone for their patience during this first week of school.  Parents, please do not drive in the front circle during arrival times (7:40 to 8:10 a.m.) or dismissal times (2:45-3:15 p.m.)  We would also like to remind parents to follow the traffic flow and be cautious for the safety of our children in the parking lot.  Students should be picked up on the side of the building.  Students will cross at the designated crosswalk with the direction of Mr. Price.
