SPECIAL AREA PROGRAMS

 Information regarding the rotating special area programs (Foreign Language, Technology, Art, Physical Education, Music) for students in Grades 3-6.

 

  • Winton Woods Elementary School (WWES) students will rotate through the following five special areas each week: Art, Music, Physical Education, Library/Technology, and Chinese Language/Culture.
  • WWES students will have a daily intervention/enrichment period during which they will be able to participate in individual or small group assistance, use of the computer-based achievement test preparation software program Study Island, additional hands on experiences in the Science Lab, extended time with the Gifted and Talented Art teacher (GTA), additional exposure to the Chinese language/culture or other enrichment opportunities for students who have demonstrated mastery of current grade-level content & skills.
  • WWES GTE students will meet during a portion of the English Language Arts block and the GTA students will have additional time during their regularly scheduled art special.
  • WWES students will continue to experience and build upon the same character education program WWPS (PN & PS) study in grades PK through 2


 

  • Winton Woods Intermediate School (WWIS) students will rotate through the following five special areas during the year: Art, Music, Physical Education, Technology, and Spanish language/culture*.
  • WWIS students will have a daily intervention/enrichment period during which they will be able to participate in individual or small group assistance, use of the computer based achievement preparation software program Study Island, Band, Chorus, Orchestra, additional exposure to the Spanish language/culture, and activities planned for year-round gardening within the school grounds.
  • WWIS students who have a high level of interest and talent for science and mathematics will have an opportunity to participate in the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) for Mathematics and Science*. The mathematics curriculum will be accelerated and the science curriculum will be enriched with a focus on research and experimental design. Parents who are interested in nominating their child for the ALP program can contact their child’s building principal to obtain an application. Completed applications are to be returned to their child’s building principal by March 8th. Teachers and administrators will also be nominating students for the ALP program.
  • WWIS Gifted and Talented Education* students will meet during a portion of the English Language Arts block and the Gifted and Talented Art* students will have additional time during their regularly scheduled art special.
