Winton Woods Middle School Starts Community Recycling Program
Winton Woods Middle School is beginning a new paper recycling program called “Make Every Page Count,” and students and staff members are inviting the community to join in their efforts. A large paper recycling container is now located at the far corner of the building past the school’s auditorium. There community members can drop off their newspapers, magazines, office and school paper, catalogs and mail.
Bins have been put in every classroom in the building and will be emptied at least once a week. “Our goal is to collect at least 4,000 pounds of paper every month,” said Secretary Sylvia Paragin. “We’re hoping to get the community involved. We have the potential to make over $700 for the principal’s fund. This fund takes care of student incentives and programs, landscaping around the building, and many other projects.”
Plastic, glass, metals and trash should not be put into the recycling container. Paper placed in the Abitibi Paper Retriever is recycled back into newsprint within a few weeks of being collected.
