Winton Woods HS Marketing Students Excel at DECA Mini Competition

Winton Woods High School Sports Marketing students walked away with nine DECA Diamond Trophies for first through third place winners at the sixth annual Great Oaks DECA Mini Spring Competition on the Scarlet Oaks Career and Development Campus on December 14, 2007.
Over 100 marketing students from five area high schools competed in nine marketing events. Participating schools included: Sycamore High School, Anderson High School, Diamond Oaks Career Development Campus, Live Oaks Career Development Campus, and Winton Woods High School.
Winton Woods Sports Marketing students who won first place were:
• Brian Davis in Marketing Management
• Steven Cleary and Cherish Smith in Sports and Entertainment Marketing
• Jason Doan in Automotive Services
• Dan Clark in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Individual.
Winton Woods Sports Marketing students who won second place were:
• Ellie Nightingale and Ariana Sanders in Travel and Tourism Marketing
• Antonio Etter and Andrew Finnerson in Sports and Entertainment Marketing
Winton Woods Sports Marketing students who won fourth place were:
• Ashley Weihe in Retail Marketing
• Brianna Davis and Chiamaka Okwumo in Hospitality Services Marketing
• Roderick Fitzgerald and Mitchell Williams in Sports and Entertainment Marketing.
Winton Woods Sports Marketing students who won fifth place were
• Noleena Booker and Jennifer Rowell in Hospitality Services Marketing.
All competitors took a 100 question multiple-choice test on marketing concepts and had to perform an impromptu role play situation that dealt with either human relations problem-solving, selling, promotion, economic concepts, management decision-making, pricing, product development, planning marketing strategies, customer service problem-solving or a combination of the above.
The DECA District 4 Spring Competition will take place at Miami Middletown campus on February 12. Over 200 students from seven different marketing chapters will compete at this event.
DECA is an association of high school marketing students who are pursing careers in marketing and management. Ohio DECA has 5,295 members with 190 chapters, and National DECA has a total of 170,000 student members for the High School Division.
