Science Lab
The idea for a science lab was conceived five years ago by Mr. Paul Bahner, (who was at the time the principal of Cameron Park Elementary School), and myself, Cris Cornelssen (who was at the time a 5th grade teacher in that building.) We felt that students needed more "hands-on" science experiences in order to better understand the scientific content that was being taught. Dr. Nasbe and the school district felt that the lab was a viable program and one that all elementary students in the district should have access to. Hence, the move of the science lab to the new third/fourth grade building now called Winton Woods Elementary School. Students enrolled in the WWES experience the science lab twice a week for a two week rotation. During this lab time, students are engaged in investigations and experiments that follow the scientific method and allow them to test their hypothesis to questions posed by the instructor. Students work cooperatively in groups of four to discover the science behind the question in the investigation.
