The theme of the Forest Park Steppers annual donation drive was “together we are better.” Community leaders of Forest Park and Greenhills partnered with Walmart to raise money and collect supplies for students in the Winton Woods District. The Forest Park Senior Center parking lot was full as people dropped off materials and participated in stepping from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Forest Park Steppers Founder Pearl Lewis said the outcome of the drive was a tremendous success and believes the support of the community was an integral part. “This year we’ve collected the most supplies ever. This donation drive was started back in 2005 with five members and a Kroger grocery bag of supplies. Now we are filling up cars to capacity.”
For the last 12 years, the Stepper’s mission has been to supply district students and teachers with the necessities they need for the school year. Donated items included bookbags, highlighters, markers, pens, pencils, glue, journals, paper, crayons, scissors, pencil bags, folders, tissues, hand sanitizers and other supplies.
“Positivity radiates from this group,” said Community Engagement Coordinator Corina Denny. “We are so appreciative and thankful to the Steppers organization, Forest Park police department and fire department, community leaders, Walmart and community members for coming together to help our students reach their highest potential.”
