“Nutrition is the Mission” – Free Lunch Mobile Bus Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Nutrition is the mission bus

Winton Woods City Schools invites district families and community members to the dedication of the new “Nutrition is the Mission” bus on Tuesday, June 12, from 9:00-9:30 a.m. on the Winton Woods Intermediate School campus at 825 Waycross Road in Forest Park.

For the first time, Winton Woods City Schools will be “on the road” bringing free lunches and beverages to students in the community to ensure children receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. To accomplish this innovative and aggressive goal, the district converted a retired school bus into a mobile “Nutrition is the Mission” meal distribution vehicle.

We estimate this free mobile program will hand out more than 20,000 meals during the eight weeks of the summer.  This federally-supported program is available to any youth in our community under the age of 18. Research shows that health and nutrition contribute greatly to student achievement. Through this nutritional opportunity, Winton Woods City Schools will strive to provide every child in our district with a nutritional boost throughout the summer.
