2010 Summer Enrichment Opportunities

 

The following are camps/activities available in the Cincinnati area this summer.  These camps are not endorsed by the Winton Woods City School District but serve as resources for our families. 

·        Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens
Register for Zoo Camp 2010 and go wild with us this summer! Full-day camps from 9:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m. and half-day camps from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. are available now for 4-14 year olds. Before and after care is also available.

·        Drake Planetarium Lego Engineering Camps
Create and construct models of towers, buildings, and machines of all kinds that really work.  Apply math and science to real world situations. Develop critical thinking and problem solving. Build self-esteem.

Our Summer Enrichment Camp is built on themes that immerse/open themselves to math, reading, science, art, music and poetry. All of this is exemplified through weekly learning packets that go home and an end-of-summer camp celebration where students demonstrate what they have learned.

·        Lions in Waiting Minority Mentoring and Leadership Development Program
The Lions in Waiting program is open to 5th – 8th grade girls from diverse backgrounds, who are passionate about learning.  The purpose of the program is to cultivate, nurture and develop the potential leadership qualities that each young woman already possesses.

·        Miami University Youth Writing Camp
This camp will provide young writers with exciting, active, and cooperative experiences that will enhance their writing skills while sparking their creativity. The week-long camp is facilitated by OWP trained classroom teachers and local authors.

   University of Cincinnati Emerging Ethnic Engineers Program
The Emerging Ethnic Engineers Family Science Academy Program is designed to provide students and their parents with hands-on experiences exploring fundamental science concepts related to chemistry and physics.

·        Waycross Summer Video Camp

Waycross Community Media will once again host summer camps for area youth in grades 3 - 12. Campers will learn all about video production—Field Production, Editing, and Studio Production—and will produce several videos that will be shown on local cable TV.
